Job Description

As the Safety Certificate Program Director, you’ll help create meaningful, practical training that will make breweries and packaging facilities safer places to work.

The Master Brewers Safety Certificate Program will consist of several short courses on brewing-specific safety topics which can be taken individually or as a series to earn a certificate. The program director outlines the series of 10 brewing safety courses, identifies subject matter experts, and coordinates with them to create the educational materials and Master Brewers learning experience manager to incorporate best practices for adult learning. The Master Brewers Brewery Safety Committee and Master Brewers Learning Experience Manager will oversee this process.

The first four courses should be developed and launched by May 2024. After that time, progress will be evaluated, and the director position may be extended for one more year. The entire course series will be completed and launched by June 2025.


Deliverables & Timeline

The time commitment for this role will vary depending on the project development stage but is anticipated to be 2-4 hours per week.

  • ​The program director is expected to meet weekly with staff and monthly with the safety committee starting in August 2023 through project completion.

The stages of the pr​oject with approximate timelines are outlined below

  • An outline of the courses, including key learning targets should be completed by October 2023.
  • Subject matter experts for the first four courses should be identified by November 2023.
  • The first four courses will be launched by May 2024.
  • Evaluation of progress is scheduled for June 2024, whereupon the contract may be extended through 2025.


Qualifications

Industry Technical Knowledge and Experience

​​The program director should:

  • Be familiar with safety best practices and pitfalls found across all sectors of the brewing industry, including large and small breweries and packaging line facilities.
  • Have a deep, accessible network of industry experts, with the ability to recruit them to serve as subject matter experts to create the instructional materials for the courses.

Training Experience

​​The program director should:​

  • Have experience developing safety protocols and training employees.
  • Be able to break down a broad topic into manageable chunks with defined learning goals.
  • Be passionate about the importance of continuous learning and should know the difference between “telling” and “teaching.”
  • Be familiar with strategies to assess learning in an authentic way that relates the content to the learner’s specific situation and needs.

Personal Attributes​

​​The program director should:

  • Have excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Be a good people manager with the ability to coordinate with subject matter experts as they create engaging and relevant learning materials.
  • Be adept at collaboration, working closely with staff and the safety committee.

Additional Requirements

  • ​Membership in good standing with the Master Brewers Association of the Americas.
  • Strict adherence to Master Brewers Code of Conduct.
