This presentation has been developed to help brewery facilities maintenance personnel with an overview of the operation and functions of glycol chiller systems. In our presentation, we’ll cover the mechanics of a system to include the main heat transfer points within the brewery chilled glycol system. How do we get the heat from the beer, into the glycol, and then what happens to it after this?

As we review the basics of the heat transfer, we’ll explore the 5 major components inside of a mechanical refrigeration circuit and how they work together. We call this the “Circle of Cool” and have identified 5 major components, Compressor, Condenser, Evaporator, Metering Device, and the Refrigerant. We’ll discuss each component and some diagnostics tips for each. Our final points of discussion will be about establishing and implementing a preventative maintenance program to include weekly, monthly, annual, and semi-annual inspection items, attendees can plan to identify those items which can be reviewed by brewery personnel as well as those items which should be incorporated with an inspection by a qualified mechanical contractor.

Damon Reed joined the team at Pro Refrigeration in 2005, after spending more than a decade working as a Service Technician and in Sales for a refrigeration contractor. In 2016 Damon was promoted to Chief Revenue Officer overseeing Pro Refrigeration's Product Management, Field Service, Technical Support and Sales Team. Damon has worked with hundreds of breweries on system design for; new construction, expansion, and relocation. A native of Idaho, Damon works out of Pro Refrigeration's Headquarters in Auburn, WA.
