The boiler is the heart of the steam fired brewhouse. It is a system that has more potential expansive energy than dynamite. This gives it the ability to relocate the brewery and everyone in it in the blink of an eye. Yet very few in the industry have had proper training, if any, in how to safely operate and maintain the boiler and its support equipment. In addition to the pressure vessel of the boiler itself, there is also the potential for death or injury from the production of carbon monoxide from the burner. This also extends to the burner of a direct fired brewhouse. There are actually more deaths and injuries each year attributed to carbon monoxide poisoning then there are pressure vessel deaths. This technical seminar will lay out the basics needed for the safe operation of the boiler system and also attend to the requirements for safe burner operation of the boiler and direct fired brewhouse vessel burner. How to size the boiler room, air opening requirements for combustion and ventilation, proper stack types, along with proper venting of gas line components will be discussed.
Dave started working with his dad at Allied Boiler in 1977. In 1984 when his dad passed away he took over at the helm. He has been an instructor at Allied's boiler training school since 1992. A member of the TN Board of Boiler Rules and Master Brewers Mid-South District technical committee, he says he knows how much he doesn't know. But what he does know he wants to share, if by doing so it may possibly save lives.
