Systems engineering by digital control
J. G. Miller
Abstract
The use of digital control devices offers significant advantages to the process that can benefit from high processing accuracy and control flexibility. In order to assay the relevance of these advantages, the control engineer must evaluate the control objectives. The essential questions are: What is the best level of operation? - (Optimization); How can we get to the best level? -(Mobilization); How can we hold at the best level ? -(Stabilization); A modern brewery is an apt candidate for digital control because it places unique demands on the technique of optimization, mobilization, and stabilization.
