Abstract
A description of the types of steel and aluminium used in beer can manufacture is given. The great importance of alloying and the mode of production of the metal in determining its physical properties is described together with a description of the nomenclature, specifications and properties of the many products of the steel and aluminium industries. The authors feel that the development in the USA. of continuous casting for sheet steel and tin mill products will keep steel as a competetive container material in the future.
