The apv approach to automation in the brewery.
Parsons, D.G.
Abstract
The evolution of automated brewery tank rooms from the initial block type relay controlled plant built in 1966 to the present day computer controlled installations is described. Mention is made of the reasons for introducing the various types of control and the economic advantages of automation resulting from reduced building costs in addition to the usually considered straight forward labour saving. Brief descriptions are given of the operation of such plants, including Watneys Isleworth and Scottish & Newcastle, Edinburgh. A computer or sequence controlled designed by APV and special computer interface equipment which was designed specifically for the control of brewing plants is also described.
