Automated alcohol and original gravity analyser: a new aid to brewing.

Abstract
The use of the Technicon Beer Analyzer (TBA 100) at Anheuser-Busch is described. This instrument was selected from other analysers because of its precision, versatility and speed of analysis. In this instrument the exposure of a beer sample to a sodium perchlorate reagent produces an endothermic reaction and the temperature dependent resistance changes of a thermistor are used to measure the temperature in a reaction cell using a modified Wheatstone bridge. The analyser is now in use in all Anheuser-Busch breweries. Comparisons are given of the results of automatic and manual determination of alcohol for a number of Anheuser-Busch beers.
