Abstract
This award has been made to the author who is Professor of Brewing Science and Technology in the Department of Food Science and Technology in the University of California at Davis in recognition of his development of courses in brewing for undergraduates and for his guidance of postgraduate students in research on brewing topics. He is the only University teacher on brewing in the U.S.A. Many of his former students now hold senior positions in U.S. breweries. Development of his teaching and research activities is discussed.
