Abstract
Legislation and the activities of public regulatory authorities concerned with environmental issues, including the increasing importance of European Community directives in shaping UK environmental policy, are discussed in the context of the UK brewing industry. The role of the Brewers' Society in promoting voluntary action (energy and water conservation etc.) on the part of individual brewing companies, as well as advising them on legal matters, is also described.
