Abstract
The costs of two processes for the production of industrial ethanol, one using plant enzymes and the other using acid hydrolysis, are compared for two different substrates. The enzymic method appears to be economically viable, especially if breadfruit is used, as the alternative substrate, cassava, is more expensive, but the acid hydrolysis technique is not cost effective even using the cheaper material.
