Malt Analysis. Prediction or Predicament

Abstract
That malt analysis has its limitations is nothing new. However, the question must be asked -"why is it that malt analysis is still universally used if it gives such limited information?" Part of the answer lies, I believe, in the fact that it provides information to a number of different interest groups that range from the barley breeding fraternity to farmers, traders, maltsters, buyers and brewers. Consequently, this type of analysis tries to be all things to all people. This paper not only looks at the problems associated with a general type of analysis, but also suggests a way forward that requires both brewers and maltsters to work together in understanding how the problems arise, and how to jointly solve them.

Sintesis
El que el analisis de malta tenga sus limitaciones no es nada nuevo. Sinembargo, la pregunta se tiene que hacer -"porque es que el analisis de malta es todavia universalmente utiliado si dan informacion tan limitada?" Parte de la respuesta se encuentra, pienso yo, en el hecho de que provee de informacion a un numero variado de diferentes grupos de intereses que varian desde la fratemidad de criadores de cebada, a agricultores, comerciantes, malteros, compradores y cerveceros. Consecuentemente, este tipo de analisis trata de ser todo para todos. Este trabajo no solamente se enfoca en los problemas asociadas con un tipo general de analisis, sino que tambien sugiere un camino adelante que requiere de que tanto cerveceros como malteros trabajen en conjunto para entender como se producen los problemas, y como conjuntamente solucionarlos.
