Abstract
An automatic instrument for measuring seaming thickness (T2), the most important factor of quality control for canned products, has been developed. The newly developed instrument has been employed in all of Kirin's canning operations and has helped to achieve reliable production. It is highly accurate because measurement error due to manual operation of a micrometer is eliminated. The data represent an actual T2 due to measurement at each degree around the can, in contrast to conventional manual measurement at a few points. In addition, the process is fully automated and at the same time carries out an analysis for quality control.

Se ha desarrollado un instrumento autom�tico para la medici�n del espesor de sello(T2), el factor m�s importante de control de calidad para productos enlatados. El instrumento ha sido empleado en todas las operaciones de enlatado de la Cervecer�a Kirin y ha ayudado lograr una producci�n m�s confiable. Es m�s exacto puesto que elimina el error de medici�n debido a la operaci�n manual de un micr�metro. Los datos representan un T2 real debido a que la medida se realiza en toda la circunferencia de la lata, en contraste con la medici�n manual convencional en unos pocos puntos. El proceso es totalmente automatizado y realiza simult�neamente una evaluaci�n para el control de la calidad.
