Abstract
Hydrogen sulfide is an extremely toxic gas that is formed as organic material decomposes under anaerobic conditions. In breweries, hydrogen sulfide can form in several places but presents the greatest hazard in confined spaces and wastewater, particularly anaerobic wastewater treatment. Steps should be taken to protect employees and include education, proper design of equipment, and administrative controls.
