Abstract
Consumers want more beer styles, flavors, and experiences than ever before, and the brewing industry is more dynamic and competitive than ever. Yet the packaging for most products is just reduced and reused versions of what has been used for decades. It may be time to step outside of the default standard. Utilizing a scalable self-manufactured approach to your packaging requirements could be a game changer for profitability and flexibility. Beginning with the following four points, this manuscript will highlight how polyethylene terephthalate (PET) packaging can have a positive effect on your operation. 1) With a vertically integrated package supply, the production facility does not stock warehouses full of empty containers. This system creates a nearly on-demand yet comparatively flexible production stream, plus no shipping of unfilled containers. 2) Additionally, using blowmolding to manufacture the container enables it to be easily changed to freshen up your marketing or customize your brand image. Marketing is a large part of the beer industry, and a customizable package material such as PET can truly differentiate your product and brand. 3) Reduce the carbon footprint of each beer by using a PET package. The plastic container has lower energy emissions and less solid waste in producing and recycling, which means lower impact from producing and recycling the package compared with glass and aluminum. Not to mention huge savings in shipping compared with glass, because of the significant reduction in weight. 4) Add new package types and ways for consumers to enjoy beer. As an example, and specifically regarding multiserve and keg systems, the potential of switching to PET has lately been a significant topic of discussion, and the benefits of PET have not yet been fully realized by brewers. Organizations like yours can lead the change and benefit from it. PET bottles for single- and multiserve beer packaging will unlock an influx of technology and control. This paper shows you how it can be done.

Los consumidores están pidiendo más estilos de cerveza, diferentes sabores y experiencias, y la industria cervecera está ahora más dinámica y competitiva que nunca. Sin embargo los envases para la mayoría de los productos son versiones reusados de empaques usados hace décadas. Ya es hora de salirse de lo corriente. Utilizando un enfoque de manufactura propia podría darle mayores beneficios y flexibilidad a sus operaciones comenzando con los siguientes cuatro puntos con respecto al uso de empaques de polietileno terethalato (PET). 1) Con una fuente de empaques integrado verticalmente, la planta no llena almacenes con empaques vacíos. Este sistema crea un flujo de producción según lo necesario, sin dejar de ser flexible. No se transportan empaques vacíos. 2) Usando moldes soplados para fabricar los envases facilita su cambio eventual para refrescar su mercadeo y la imagen de su marca. El mercadeo es una parte importante de la industria cervecera y un novedoso envase PET puede diferenciar su producto y marca de los demás, 3) Reduzca la huella de carbón mediante el uso de envases PET. Este envase plástico tiene menores emisiones de energía y menos desperdicios sólidos en su producción y reciclaje, lo que implica menos impacto debido a la producción y reciclaje del envase, comparado con vidrio y aluminio.
