AbstractThe content of this short communication is the question of whether varying results of different methods of sorting malt grist can be compared by mathematical conversion. If this is possible, results achieved by different sieving methods (e.g., from different breweries) can be compared and malt quality can be controlled through different analyzing techniques. To answer this question, the sorting method used for brewing (described in German standard DIN 4188) and the sorting method used for milling are compared concerning the sorting of malt grist. Depending on the different specific sieve numbers and the quantities of sieves used, the resulting mass percentages vary. Therefore, the mass percentages were interpreted as density distributions and converted into cumulative distributions. The final ones were compared, and they were equal. Thus, the results of different methods of sorting malt grist can be compared by mathematical conversion.
