Abstract
The cost of purchasing and properly disposing of iso-octane (2,2,4-trimethylpentane) for testing bitterness in beer is considerable. It is by far the most expensive reagent used in the spectrophotometric beer bitterness tests, but it can easily be regenerated using simple, inexpensive equipment. Our brewery has been using iso-octane regenerated by the method described in this paper for the past 8 years, and the method has met all of our expectations for both testing accuracy and resource management.
