Abstract
An aluminum can is highly recyclable, and the beverage can industry is determined to improve its position as the most recycled package in the United States. The Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) has identified several areas for improvement: implementing well-designed deposit systems to create a stronger financial incentive for recycling, expanding recycling options and growing the number of cans recycled both at home and away from home, improving sortation of cans at recycling centers, and increasing public awareness of the environmental and economic impact of recycling cans.
